‘2 Win’: they prepare a film about the duel Audi vs. 1983 WRC Lancia

The film does not yet have a release date, but it is already in the editing phase.

Daniel Brühl, who already played Lauda in ‘Rush’, will play Audi boss

Italian director Stefano Mordini is preparing a film about one of the most passionate rivalries in the motor world: that of Lancia and Audi in the 1983 World Rally Championship. The film, which does not yet have a release date, will star Daniel Brühl, who is once again part of another exciting duel after playing Niki Lauda in ‘Rush’.

Brühl shares a cast with the Italian actor Riccardo Scamarcio and the German Volker Bruch. The script is in charge of Filippo Bologna, Mordini and Scarmarcio. ‘2 Win’ is Mordini’s first film in English and began shooting in Turin on May 16. On September 6, the editing process for the film began.

This is a great rivalry between Italians and Germans. Audi driver Hannu Mikkola beats world champion Walter Röhrl and his Lancia teammate Markku Alén to win the drivers’ title. Lancia, however, manages to snatch the constructors’ title from Audi by just two points.

“2 WIN is the incredible true story behind the 1983 World Rally Championship. A true story of David against Goliath, in which we see how the brave Lancia team that is underdogs, led by the charismatic Cesare Fiorio, accepts the challenge of the powerful Audi team in one of the great rivalries in sports history,” says its distributor, Hanway Films.

“Against his great rival Roland Gumpert and a superior Audi (including the Queen of Speed, Michèle Mouton) the director of Lancia Cesare Fiorio faces certain defeat in the 1983 World Cup. With cunning and ingenuity, Fiorio prepares everything to steal the win. Like any perfect heist, Fiorio brings together an unlikely team, including Jane McCoy, the team’s doctor and nutritionist, who becomes a key part against Fiorio’s bravado.”

“Cesare’s lucky break comes when he convinces a quiet Walter Röhrl to drive for Lancia, but the thing is, Röhrl only competes in races he likes. Using every trick at his disposal and playing by the rules, Fiorio enters dangerous territory both on and off the track, all because of their reckless desire to win.”
